Guides
Barrel vs. Cabin Saunas
A barrel and a cabin can have the same floor area and very different usable space. Here is how to compare the two on volume, heater fit, snow, and permits.
Electric vs. Wood-Burning Sauna Heaters
Electric sauna heaters need a 240 V circuit; wood stoves need a chimney and clearances. See the amps, rules, and a worked running-cost formula.
How to Choose an Outdoor Sauna
Choose an outdoor sauna by working back from your yard, your panel, and the room volume your heater can warm. Use this order and checklist.
Outdoor Sauna Foundation and Electrical Requirements
An outdoor sauna needs a level, drained base and a permitted 240 V feed with a disconnect. Foundation options, permits, and what the code sources say.
Sauna Wood Types Compared
Compare red cedar, white cedar, thermally modified wood, spruce, hemlock, pine, and aspen by decay resistance, weight, hardness, and shrinkage.
